Constellate
Constellate is a VR exhibition that was created from a research trip around Liverpool. I felt that Virtual Reality was the best way to get this idea across.
This project started with me taking night-time pictures around Liverpool (shown at the bottom). I then mapped out the areas that I'd visited and noticed that the map started to resemble a constellation similar to stars. This then inspired me to create an exhibition experience that would show the journey I took but in a very abstract, minimalistic way, leaving some things up for interpretation.
I originally started creating the exhibition scene in Blender, as it was the program I was most familiar with. However, there were many boundaries and limitations to this idea, as the user was not able to freely move around the scene. I finally decided to use Unreal Engine 4 for this job, as they have pre-build assets that allow the user to control movement. I added different features (showcased in the trailer below) such as the ability to screenshot what you see, nametags for the different lamps around the scene and the ability to freely move around the space. The video below is the trailer that brings all assets of this project together.
The 3 posters shown below were created using the screenshot feature I implemented into the VR exhibition. I simply took 3 shots as I walked around the area, adding the title and tagline to each one. These posters are extremely simplistic but also aesthetically pleasing.
These images below were taking of someone testing out the Virtual Reality exhibition, trying it both sat down and stood up to feel the true sense of freedom.
The three video clips below show the different features that I added to the VR exhibition; being able to walk around and explore, looking at the lamps to see the location and the light level in that area and the screenshot feature with flashing white screen effect.
