Orthodox Reality? is a fantasy music festival that takes place on a space station on Mars. Along with the out of this world venue, the festival also includes the biggest artist known to man (both dead and alive), shown through projected holograms.
I originally came up with this idea for a project I was set, where I had to think of 2 words from 2 letters that were given. Evidently, my 2 letters were O and R, so I decided to use Orthodox Reality. However for the title of the project, I wanted to pose it as a question to make people ask themselves whether their reality is actually orthodox. I decided on the idea of a space festival, as it fit well with the idea that our reality is unorthodox.
I first designed the type logo that I used throughout the project (shown in the third image below). I did this in Adobe Illustrator by warping the text around a circle. I then duplicated the layer twice and changed the colours to red and blue, layering these being the main text to give the effect of 3D. For the poster, I stuck with Illustrator, making this type logo the centre of attention on the page, adding the space effect for the background, as well as the artists playing, location and subtle effects like the smoke. For the animated poster, I used Adobe After Effects to animate the shooting stars, smoke explosion and the text glitches.
The image below shows a mock-up of the static poster to display how it would look if the festival were to be promoted in real life.
I was then tasked to design an informative magazine based on some features of the event. I designed the front cover of this magazine in a much different way, using a muted brown colour for the background, as well as a black and white image of a rocket taking off. I used the original type logo in the corner and a new type style for the main title. I used the same colours and image styles throughout the entire booklet to keep consistency.
